The problem

Legal work starts with two slow steps: reading through documents to work out what you are actually dealing with, and then finding a professional who genuinely handles that kind of matter. Both are usually done by asking around. The first eats hours before any advice is given, and the second depends on whoever happens to be in your contacts.

What we built

• Document processing that turns uploaded legal paperwork into something searchable rather than a stack of PDFs
• Research over that content, so a matter can be understood before a professional is engaged
• A directory of legal professionals with the ability to consult an expert on a specific matter
• A single flow from document, to understanding, to the right person to speak to

What made it hard

It was a reading problem before it was a matching problem. Legal documents arrive as scans and PDFs with no structure at all, so nothing could be searched, summarised or routed until the paperwork had been processed into something a system can actually work with.

How we built it

• Research over that content, so a matter can be understood before anyone is engaged and paid
• A directory categorised by the kind of matter a professional actually takes, not by who happens to be listed first
• The two halves wired together as a single flow rather than as two products sharing a login
